Sound Physicians Appoints Two New Board of Directors Members
Patrick Conway, MD, and Pat Ryan bring decades of leadership experience in value-based care to the Sound Physicians Board effective July 1, 2018.
Tacoma, Wash. – August 30, 2018 – Dr. Conway is currently the President and Chief Executive Officer of Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina. Sound Physicians’ relationship with Dr. Conway began several years ago when he was selected as a keynote speaker for the organization’s National Leadership Conference. At that time, Dr. Conway was the Deputy Administrator for Innovation and Quality at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), where he also held the role of Director of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI). As the Director of CMMI and CMS, Dr. Conway worked in a bipartisan capacity to advocate for new payment and service delivery models that reward value and quality, including bundled payments, state innovation models, and accountable care organizations. Furthermore, as a practicing pediatric hospitalist with the distinction of Master of Hospital Medicine from the Society of Hospital Medicine, Dr. Conway brings a deep understanding of Sound’s physician-centric culture.
Pat Ryan is currently the Chief Executive Officer at Press Ganey, a strategic business partner to more than 26,000 healthcare organizations and the leader in transforming and creating sustainable improvements in patient experience. In alignment with Sound’s commitment to quality care, Pat understands the value of insights derived from listening to the patient’s voice. A longtime healthcare executive with a deep understanding of the complexities of managing a health system, Pat will be focusing on helping Sound build lasting partnerships with healthcare systems to improve the safety, quality, and experience of care.
“I am honored to welcome Dr. Conway and Mr. Ryan to the Board,” Dr. Bessler, Sound Physicians, Founder, Chairman of the Board, and CEO commented. “They bring unmatched experience in areas that our organization deems most important, around innovation, quality, and patient experience,” he continued, “I’m very confident they will help us to further improve the quality and cost of healthcare for patients in the communities we serve.”
